Free Credit Report

I’m sure you’ve seen the free credit report commercials similar to the one above. Be aware that freecreditreport.com is really a commercial site run by Experian. They are looking to sign you up to a product that will monitor your credit as well as give you your credit score. The following information is on their homepage. However, some may totally disregard the notice since they have already been convinced by their commercial that this is the place to go.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION
When you order your free report here, you will begin your free trial membership in Triple AdvantageSM Credit Monitoring. If you don’t cancel your membership within the 7-day trial period**, you will be billed $14.95 plus sales tax at applicable state and local rates for each month that you continue your membership.

ConsumerInfo.com, Inc. and Freecreditreport.com are not affiliated with the annual free credit report program. Under a new Federal law, you have the right to receive a free copy of your credit report once every 12 months from each of the three nationwide consumer reporting companies. To request your free annual report under that law, you must go to www.annualcreditreport.com.

The government approved site is annualcreditreport.com. They will help you get your credit report from one of the three major credit bureaus free every twelve months. You don’t need to get a report from each bureau at once. You can pick and choose which you want. The following is a warning on the government site about sites like freecreditreport.com

Important information from the Federal Trade Commission, the nation’s consumer protection agency: annualcreditreport.com is the ONLY authorized online source for you to get a free credit report under federal law. You can get a free report from each of the three national credit reporting companies every 12 months. Some other sites claim to offer “free” credit reports, but may charge you for another product if you accept a “free” report.

With the state of the economy, it is probably a good idea to check your credit report out to make sure there isn’t anything strange or unexpected on your credit report. It is hard enough to get credit these days…having something unexpected show up on your credit report can make it even more difficult.

NYC Garages

NYC Garages

I found this great site that has pretty good information about parking garages located in New York City. Sometimes when driving into the city, I just don’t have enough time to look for free street parking. Rather than choosing a random parking lot, I try to pop in my destination into this site and find the closest and cheapest parking lot. Driving into the city is expensive enough, why not save a few bucks by using this site?

Looking to buy an apartment?

A buddy of mine introduced me to NateFind and Trulia this past week. These are two great sites that provide really good real estate information (for Manhattan at least).

I personally prefer NateFind right now just because their interface is a little cleaner. They provide some really useful information such as when the listing was posted, price changes, and price per square foot. It is really convenient to use these sites rather than going to each real estate site. These sites also provide a much better search than the one on New York Times.
