Is the Wii still hard to find in 2008?

Christmas is rolling around 2008 and I was just curious as to whether or not the Nintendo Wii was still difficult to obtain. Amazon.com has the Wii console in stock and ready to ship. I wonder if people are still paying above retail for the Wii on Ebay? I was browsing some of the completed listings on Ebay and noticed that there was a completed auction today (November 17, 2008) where the Wii console, Wii Play, and Wii nunchuck sold for $405.

At first I was surprised that someone would pay this much when the price of the following items on Amazon.com is:

Item Cost
Wii Console $249.99
Wii Play $44.96
Wii Nunchuk $17.96
Total $312.91

If I were to purchase these items in New York City, sales tax would be 8.375%. That would bring my total cost to $339.12. It looks like the ebay sellers profit is around $65. However, there are some more fees to consider:

Ebay Insertion Fee: $0.15
Ebay Final Value Fee: $15.49
PayPal Fee: $12.05
Total: $27.69

The fees almost cut his profit in half. This does not account for the shipping that the seller is paying either. His profit will probably be around $38 minus whatever his shipping costs are. I’m assuming that the seller did not pay retail for his items because it would be a lot of work to make less than $40 on this one auction.

I think it makes much more sense to order the Wii from Amazon as it is in stock and they do have Free Super Saver Shipping which hopefully will land the Wii in your hands before Christmas.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2007 for Wii

On April Fools Day I thought I would try to find a Nintendo Wii. I was up a little early on Sunday so I drove to the Toys R Us in Carle Place. By 8:45 AM there was a pretty hefty line and they had already handed out all vouchers.

Next stop was Walmart. I strolled to the Electronics section and noticed that they did not have any on display. I noticed a lady talking to a Walmart employee about the Wii. I asked him if they had any left and they had 3. The lady and I each got one and I was on my way.

A few more stops and I ended up with an extra remote, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2007, and Rayman. I couldn’t find any nunchucks. Found plenty of remotes but no nunchucks.

I didn’t get to set it up until last night and since I had played Wii Sports and Rayman, I decided to try TW first. When you first load the game, it takes you through a quick tutorial on using the remote to hit the ball. The weird thing is, you swing back and you hear the ball hit. I didn’t even finish my full swing and the ball was already halfway down the fairway. Maybe it was late or maybe I was tired from going to the driving range earlier in the night. I’m not sure but I wasn’t too happy with the gameplay so far. I think I just need some more time figuring the game out.

Wii Still Hard to FInd

So I recently decided that I needed a Nintendo Wii. Why? All the cool kids have one, bowling is fun and Tiger Woods Golf was just released. Even though I was able to get one last year, I sold it to my cousin so he could give it to his kids for Christmas. I figured supply would certainly increase in 2007. Who knew that almost 4 months into 2007 Nintendo Wii’s would still be hard to find. I have heard that the Nintendo World Store in NYC gets a daily shipment so I decided to drop by before work. As I walked towards the store on 48th St between 5th and 6th Avenues, I saw a line of at least 50 people. This was at 8:45 AM! I’m hoping supply will catch up with demand and I can walk into any store to pick up a Wii instead of waking up at the crack of dawn just to snag one.

Xbox 360 Elite

In other news, PS3′s can be found everywhere. (Who would spend so much money on a console? I could buy a new set of clubs!) Microsoft announced the Xbox 360 Elite. What’s new? HDMI, 120 GB hard drive, and a sleek black finish. Should be released at the end of April with a $479.99 price tag.
