Who Says Baseball is Boring?

Things got pretty exciting in MLB land yesterday…ok, so one day was really exciting. But it’s playoff season so things are about to get even more exciting.

Jose Reyes

It all started with Jose Reyes bunting for a single and then electing to be pulled from the game so he could win the NL batting title. As a Mets fan I would be happy for him but it is possibly his last year with the Mets so the fans deserve to see him play most of the game, not just 1 at bat. He’s no Derek Jeter but who really thought he was? No one is Derek Jeter except…Derek Jeter.

Atlanta Braves
Boston Red Sox

And then there are the wild card spots. It’s the tale of two collapses. In the national league, the Atlanta Braves were 10½ games ahead of the St. Louis Cardinals before play on Aug. 26 for the NL Wild Card spot. In the American league, the Boston Red Sox were 9 games ahead of the Tampa Bay Rays on September 4 for the AL Wild Card spot.

What happened in the end? They both collapsed. I can feel their pain as a Mets fan since I witnessed their collapse not only in 2007 but also in 2008.

So are you guys ready for some playoff baseball or what?

Boston Red Sox vs New York Yankees, September 25, 2011 ESPN Recap

Yankees Stadium - Gate 6I spent a beautiful Sunday afternoon at Yankees Stadium with the wife and two good friends to watch the NY Yankees beat up on the Boston Red Sox. AJ Burnett pitched a pretty good game and he got a standing ovation when he was finally taken out in the 8th inning. The Yankees were already leading 2 – 0 when we got to the game but they scored more runs for our enjoyment.

Final OutWe sat in section 223 and the seats were great! We are usually in the upper deck near the right field foul pole and it is sometimes difficult to see all of the action. Section 223 is on the third base side of home plate and it gives a great view of home runs hit to right field (like the one Posada hit today).

The crowd around us was pretty tame (no fights that I could see) and it was just a great time all around (italian sausage, chicken fingers, cheese fries…the perfect ingredients for a good time at the stadium). I can’t wait for the playoffs to start!
